Backfat – also known as fatback lard – is one of the highest quality fat tissues that is obtained from pigs. This lard is characterized by a pure white color and a firm consistency. Its location in the body of the animal means that it has minimal meat content, which makes backfat highly desirable.

Backfat is subcutaneous fatty tissue deposited on the muscle around the spine of a pig. It can be harvested with or without the skin, before cutting and boning. Fibrous tissue separates the dorsal fat pad into two layers – subcutaneous and cutaneous.

Due to its high quality, this type of lard is often used in the food industry rather than for industrial use. However, if you are looking for a reliable partner to buy backfat, we are a long-term buyer!
